Childhood problems still affect me

Do you have a vague idea that many of your current problems stem from childhood issues but have no idea what to do next? Would you like to explore how childhood wounds are impacting on your current difficulties? Would you like to heal these wounds so you can move forward with your life? Are you sick of “advice” of well meaning friends who do not really seem to understand you and who tell you just to move on?

These sorts of issues are perfectly suited to therapy. Once we have taken the time to fully explore and understand your issues and their origins, you can gain insight into what may be holding you back now. Usually we are stuck on or with something because we have not yet learnt the lesson it has to teach us. I would like to help you to work this out .

Are you aware of constantly putting yourself down? Maybe you have an inner critic that constantly erodes your self-esteem? Would you like to learn about the origins of this inner critic and develop a nurturing soothing inner voice that supports and encourages you instead? Does your mind seem to constantly chatter with negative self-talk? Would you like to learn to be more compassionate with yourself and others?

I’d like to help you with this by introducing you to several different therapies designed specifically to deal with these issues.

Have you lost a person, relationship, your health or something else you value? Are you finding this hard to accept? Does the grief feel unbearable? Does it seem unbelievable that this could happen? Do you find you are feeling angry about what happened? Are you feeling depressed about the loss? Are you struggling to find meaning in this loss? Are you finding it hard to adjust to the changes it has brought and reengage with life? Does it feel like you will never be able to move on from this? Are you feeling alone with this struggle?

Sometimes it’s hard to find someone who can understand these feelings. You aren’t alone. I use a range of therapeutic approaches specifically designed to help people move through grief. I’d like to help you find a way through this too.

Relationship troubles

Are you struggling with relationship conflict, wondering if you are still in love, or dealing with infidelity? Is there a repeated pattern in your relationships that you would like help with making sense of and changing? Are you sick of “advice” of well meaning friends who do not really seem to understand you? Would you rather not burden your friends with this? Would you like some help to decide whether you should stay together or separate? Would you like the both of you to sit down with someone to work out how to improve your relationship?

Whether or not you want to stay together, I’d like to help you learn skills of conflict management and keeping the love alive for this relationship or learning how to do it better for your next relationship. Often it is best to learn what you can from your current relationship before you leave it, and to know that you have given it your best shot. I can offer you a place of safety and privacy where you can explore your concerns with an objective listener and learn to manage the rollercoaster of emotions in relationships with professional help.

I can't get over it

Have you experienced something traumatic in your life that you can’t seem to put behind you? Are you bothered by intrusive memories, nightmares or thoughts about what happened? Are you feeling numb and cut off from others? Are you easily startled and on edge since it happened? Does it sometimes feel as though it is happening all over again when you are triggered by things that remind you of what happened? Have you tried to deal with it by trying not to think about it and avoiding situations or people that remind you of it? Are you finding that this is stopping you from living the sort of life you want to live?

In my many years of helping people to move past trauma I have taught effective psychological strategies for managing anxiety and helped people to process the trauma so they can put it behind them and move forward with their lives. I provide a safe and effective structure for you to process the memories so you do not have to face the traumatic memories alone. I’d like to help you.

I know it's silly, but I feel compelled to do it

Are you troubled by fears and worries that you know are irrational but nevertheless, push you to do nonsensical things to reduce your anxiety? Are these habits starting to control your life and take up more and more of your time? Are family members and loved ones becoming irritated by having to fit in with the things you need them to do and having to reassure you so you do not feel so anxious? Does it feel like you have to hide these thoughts from even the people who are closest to you? Are you unhappy with the effect it is having on your relationships? Is it starting to interfere with your life and stop you from doing things you would like to do? Are you fed up with being controlled by these obsessions and compulsions?

It can seem that no one could possibly understand why you feel compelled to do something when you know yourself how irrational your fear is. I have years of experience helping people learn effective ways of taking back control of their life from obsessions and compulsions and would like to help you too.

Are you struggling with a constant stream of worries, with one worry soon replacing another? Do you find that even when most of your worries do not end up happening, your mind just moves onto to the next worry? Does it seem that despite people telling you not to worry you just can’t seem to control it? Does trying not to think about it only seem to make it worse?

You are not alone. As a psychologist who also happens to be a very experienced worrier, I have had a personal and professional interest in learning psychological strategies to reduce worries that really work. I’d like to share with you some effective strategies for managing your worries.
