About Penny
Philosophy or vision
My goal is for you to feel safe, respected and accepted as we explore your concerns in a gentle, non-judgemental way. The direction of therapy is determined by your goals. I do not believe that one therapy approach fits all so I draw creatively from a range of therapy modalities. The role of a good therapist is to get you to the point where you no longer need a good therapist.

Qualifications and Experience
I have been a registered psychologist for more than 25 years and am registered with the Psychology Board of Australia with endorsement to practice in the area of Clinical Psychology. I am also a member of the Australian Psychological Society and a Fellow of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.
I obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree with first class honours in the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland. At this time, I was awarded a University medal for academic achievement. I was then employed full time as a Clinical Psychologist at Royal Brisbane Hospital for four years, and Princess Alexandra Hospital for the following three years. I then left the public system to start a private part-time practice and a family. I completed level one training in EMDR in 1993 and was trained by Dr Francine Shapiro - the founder of EMDR. I completed my level two training in EMDR in 1996. I have also completed Level 1 Training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy. I have worked with clients with a broad range of backgrounds dealing with a wide variety of personal and relationship concerns.
Service Quality Provision
As a fully qualified and registered Psychologist with endorsement to practice in the area of Clinical Psychology, I adhere to the ethical and professional standards required by the Australian Psychological Society and the Psychology Board of Australia. To ensure that I can use the very latest techniques in helping you, I devote a substantial amount of time to professional development through seminars, workshops, conferences, reading and peer review groups. In fact, I am a "workshop junkie" as I love learning new therapeutic strategies I can bring to my clients.
Orientation
I draw from a range of orientations and aim to integrate the best of the major therapy schools (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Psychodynamic and Experiential) as well as EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness meditation, Internal Family Systems, Inner Child work and Solution Focused strategies, offering an approach that is tailored to your needs.
